Page 1, Planner Tips!

Hi friends,

On the last day of 2015 I'm preparing for January, page 1 of the next book begins tomorrow! I wanted to show you how I plan out my month to keep myself organized because I'm a bit of a nerd. I got my diary from Typo and I adore it. I'm not one of those girls that decorates their planners with thousands of stickers and tape and designs it all beautifully. Quite frankly, I can't be bothered with the time and money that takes! Mine is much simpler, I use one sticker sheet to just give me an idea of when I have important events like birthdays or meetings over the whole month, they're from Kikki K!

What I got for Christmas!

Hi friends,

After successfully completing Blogmas (WHICH I LOVED) I wanted to give myself a few days off blogging. After 4/5 days I'm itching to get back into it! I'm so excited to start my new routine already! This week I'm going to post tuesday, thursday, saturday and then next week monday, wednesday, friday and sunday (aka... every other day!). I had SUCH a lovely break over the holidays, it was lovely to spend time at my parents house and catching up with my family.

Day 24 - Share the Love

Hi Friends,

It's Christmas Eve and I wanted to post something POSITIVE. Then I realised one of the nicest things to do is to SHARE THE LOVE! Here are my current favourite 10 bloggers...

Tuesday 22 December 2015

Day 23 - Stop wishing, Start doing!

Hi Friends,

Today I wanted to post about my 'wishes' for 2016!

Day 22 - Best of 2015 Beauty

Hi Friends :)

So this is the OTHER side of my favourites, not the make up but the 'other' beauty products. They're not so fun BUT things like skincare and perfume are all the little things that make us feel glamorous even when the make up isn't there! (Deep moment). I'm not going to pick something for each category (e.g. perfume, nail varnish, cleanser, toner, moisturizer) because I feel like those wouldn't be my FAVOURITE 15... For example, even though I love my toner it wouldn't count as one of my top 15 products!

So here are the top 15 of this year...

1. Simple make up wipes

Day 21 - What's in my bag?

Hi Friends,

I feel like this is a classic post that everyone does?! As it was getting towards the end of blogmas I thought I'd try it! I think people like these posts because they like to be nosy... I know that's why I like them. So here we go...

Sunday 20 December 2015

Day 20 - Best of 2015 Make up

Hi Friends :)

It's that time of year! Nothing I possibly start using now could count as a 2015 favourite... it's a tad too late in the year! So even though I've found some of my favourite make up products this month (CHARLOTTE TILBURY FOUNDATION) I'm not going to include it (see what I did there?!). I've had to split up make up and 'other beauty items' (what an awkward category...) into two posts or it would just get too long so expect that one in a couple of days...

So the 15 products I have loved most this year (narrowed down from about 30 I originally selected before realizing that was ludicrous)... IN NO PARTICULAR ORDER!

1. Naked 2 palette

Saturday 19 December 2015

Day 19 - Food for thought...

Hi Friends :)

It's really hard to be healthy this time of year. Lets face it, this month I've posted recipes for 2 types of cookies and mince pies! It's also super boring to eat salad all the time so I wanted to post some healthyish meals that aren't a salad! I'm not saying that this is the healthiest food to eat, but it's not pizza followed by chips followed by sugarsugarsugar. I wanted to find 3 meals that are really quick, 'rushing out the door' meals. I'm not going to photograph my food by displaying it as a piece of art work on my plate as if I do that every day... let's get real, NO ONE has time for that! I won't be arranging my strawberries in concentric circles. It's what I ate Friday, so here we go!

Day 18 - 2015 Reflections...

Hi Friends :)

Today I wanted to make the post a little more personal and reflect on some of my favourite memories of 2015. I feel like everyone always says 'this was simultaneously the best and worst year of my life', but I can't say that for 2015. It was just the best. I've had much worse, this year brought me happiness and of course stress but the goods outweigh the bad.

So I wanted to talk through a few highlights, and this took a LONG time to narrow down.

In March I visited my sister who was living in New York. That city always feels like home, I have NO idea why because I'm a country girl, not a big city girl, but there's something about that place that I find magical. Don't get me wrong, I know it has its flaws but it suits me. All we did was eat amazing food and spend time together and I loved that. Four whole days with just her, talking about art and boys and food.

Day 17 - A girl can never have too many...

Hi lovely friends :)

Today I wanted to do a post about make up because I feel like it's been all about Christmas and baking lately so I wanted to talk about something else! (I bet tomorrow will be a Christmas or baking post...)

Wednesday 16 December 2015

Day 16 - Yum yummy, get in my tummy!

Hi Friends :)

Today I wanted to try to make a really super traditionally Christmas recipe so I went for Minced Pies! Won't lie, I'm not a fan of them, I just nibble off the pastry and leave the inside but I actually LIKED these ones - amazing!

Tuesday 15 December 2015

Day 15 - Stocking fillers!

Hi lovely friends :)

I was looking at my Christmas presents and realized how many stocking stuffers I'd bought! I fill a stocking for mum and dad each year but some of these items are also presents for other people which apply to the stocking filler rule - IT MUST BE UNDER £15! There are a few things I REALLY wanted to put into this post but couldn't because I didn't want to include gifts to friends who may see this post... some were just too obvious! But here we go...

Monday 14 December 2015

Day 14 - Whistle while you work...

Hi Friends :)

So it has begun! The cleaning project has started. On Friday my working term ended which means the three week holiday has begun! Of course it's going to be an amazing time to see family and friends but I also have a massive amount of degree work to do and holidays are my time for cleaning! Today I wanted to share my cleaning schedule for the Christmas break because I'm sure many of you out there will be wanting to do a massive clean up before the Christmas festivities begin!

SO here goes nothing...

Sunday 13 December 2015

Day 13 - Top 5 Winter Essentials!

Hi Friends :)

As it's getting colder and colder all of my winter essentials are coming out so I thought I'd share them!

1. Festive mugs

Saturday 12 December 2015

Day 12 - Tis the season to fill my belly!

Hi Friends!

Time for some more festive baking - I appear to have become obsessed! This time we are making shortbread cookies.

Friday 11 December 2015

Day 11 - The Life Changing Magic of Tidying

Hi Friends,

So today I wanted to talk to you about a book, which may sound a bit odd but this book is amazing. It's called 'The Life Changing Magic of Tidying' by Marie Kondo. I saw it going around the internet a before the summer and I decided to put it in my amazon basket!

Thursday 10 December 2015

Day 10 - Instagram Diary...

Hi Friends :)

I LOVE Instagram, it's my favourite social media platform. It's so visual (obviously) and it's a fantastic place to store all of my most cherished photos. You've already seen my christmas tree, advent post and the breakfast SO I thought I'd go through 3 other of my favourite recent posts :)

Wednesday 9 December 2015

Day 9 - Christmas Tag!

Hi Friends :)

I gave out my Christmas presents at work today and I now feel FESTIVE, so today is time for a tag. There are so many Christmas tags so I combined three different ones! Here we go...

Tuesday 8 December 2015

Day 8 - DIY Pamper Jar...

Hi Friends :)

I know normally jar gifts are cookies or hot chocolate recipes... or something, but this one isn't! This one is for one of my colleagues and it's a pamper jar.

I knew she loved a nail polish from Mac, so I decided to get it as her main christmas gift and then little extras like socks and beauty samples.

You will need...

Monday 7 December 2015

Day 7 - Brown paper packages tied up with string!

Hi Friends :)

In the midst of all the Christmas shopping I had to pop in a cheeky order for me didn't I? YES I DID. I was on Charlotte Tilbury's website and it's just all so beautiful and luxurious and I just had to do it. So here is a mini haul! I wasn't planning on posting this when I made the order, but when it arrived it all looked so impressive so I HAD to post it.

Here we go...

When you open the box it's just stunning. It looks like an ordinary cardboard box but then the inside of the box has a beautiful illustration and the first thing you see is a gold embossed envelope...which tells you how much money you've spent, so definitely pass that one.

Under the gorgeous tissue paper there's so much more than I even ordered! I wanted the lipstick in Birkin Brown, the magic foundation in shade 1 (obviously, I'm super pale) and the feline liquid eyeliner pen! But there was an additional 6 samples - I think that's pretty impressive.

I've never tried a lipstick sample before so I have to say I'm super exited about those. The rest are 3 shade samples for the foundation, so I'm giving each of them to friends. Then there's a night cream and an eye cream which I'm giving to one of my friends.

This is the foundation! I have to say I think the packaging is gorgeous as a first impression. I love the glass bottle and rose gold cap and of course, got to love the pump. I've seen so many people using this foundation and so many makeup artists on instagram so I realised it was one I just had to try out.

I have to say liquid eyeliner is my nemesis. I just can't handle it but felt tip pens make it all the more easier and this one is so precise at the end and actually DARK. I have a few eyeliners that just look grey after a while so this one is great *keep your fingers crossed*.

Okay, I have a problem with this one. These lipsticks are incredible and I can't get enough. It's the matte revolution formulation and I've been converted. I used to think the matte finish wasn't that nice looking but I've become a MASSIVE fan, these lipsticks are my favourite. This year I've suddenly been obsessed with darker shades of berry and brown so I thought this one was a bit of a necessity.

I hope you enjoyed this little first look! I'll definitely do a review once they have been trialled and tested :)

Love & hugs always,

Sunday 6 December 2015

Day 6 - Knock Knock!

Hi friends :)

Today I'm going to give you a little sneak peek into my home. This sounds odd, but it's my first 'Soothing Sunday' post and you know what, my flat makes me feel so relaxed so why the hell not! It's my sanctuary and safe place, I love spending time here. So today I thought I'd share a few images of it before embarking on my 'Living with Less' project! These will be Christmas focussed because... IT'S BLOGMAS!

Saturday 5 December 2015

Day 5 - Baking up a storm!

Hi Friends :)

I've decided that for the first recipe for December it HAD to be Tanya Burr's cookies. This is my go-to recipe when it comes to cookies and my boyfriend and sister LOVE them. It's his birthday today so I thought this would be a nice treat for him :) This recipe can be found on Tanya's blog and all over the internet but in case you haven't made them yet, GIVE IT A GO BY FOLLOWING THESE STEPS!

Friday 4 December 2015

Day 4 - DIY Advent Calendar!

Hi Friends :)

Lots of my friends have recently been saying that they've missed out on getting an advent calendar and many have mentioned wanting to make their own. Now I know this is a few days late, but hey - better late than never!

Each year I make my parents a DIY advent calendar. I decided that this year I wanted to make them something they could keep always, not something temporary for December. So I have created this calendar!

Thursday 3 December 2015

Day 3 - How to stay motivated when working from home...

Hi Friends!

I've just finished yet ANOTHER assignment towards my degree which I study online through the Open University. Once each assignment is done I'm always struck by a wave of relief, what an amazing feeling to have that complete and gone, now for a bubble bath and evening of relaxation!

Wednesday 2 December 2015

Day 2 - Dude, it's December.

Hi Friends!

For my favorites this month I’ve decided to change it up and try categories :) I thought it might be a bit of fun so here we go!

Tuesday 1 December 2015

Day 1 - Christmas Gift Guide!

Hi Friends :)

I know I’ve been out of the loop for a while but to make up for it I’ve PLANNED on blogging each day in December until Christmas! This is a bit of a tall order for me because I’m slightly slow on the writing front… but we can keep our fingers crossed! A lot of them will be Christmas related because, lets face it, it’s the best time of the year…

So, to start of - A CHRISTMAS GIFT GUIDE!

Review: Zoella's Beauty Range

Hi Friends :)

Mini starting disclaimer: I realise the products have only been out a few days but this is just an initial review as I have used 4 out of the 5 I bought since its release date. Thanks :)

So... it's been some time. And when I say some time, I mean ages. My last post was MAY! I'm very sorry. Basically, exam revision kicked in and there was no time for me to post. I knew that was going to go on for a few weeks but then in June, after my exam on the 16th I just needed a couple of weeks for a break.

But now I'm back and ready to talk about some lovely smelly things - Zoella's new 'Tutti Fruity' beauty range. I went into Superdrug looking for some summer holiday minis (I love the mini deodorants and body butters) and I saw Zoella's new products were out. I was planning on buying a new perfume for the summer (a bad habit, which now means I have more perfumes than anyone ever needs in their lives) and as soon as I saw the body mist 'Let's Spritz!' I thought maybe that could replace my typical perfume purchase.

WELL KNOCK ME DOWN, it smelt AMAZING. Fruity and light, just like summer in a bottle it made me so happy and its £8 rather than the normal £30-60 I would spend on a perfume. This is possibly the thing I am most excited about wearing all summer.

I also picked up the bath fizzer 'Fresh Fizz' which I think is such a good size in comparison with the last one. Her 'Fizz Bar' is lovely, don't get me wrong, but its 6 smaller pieces and I'd always end up using 2 where as this one is 4 larger chunks, and the smell is of course dreamy.

Another one I've already tried is the 'Candy Cream' softening body lotion which has bursting beads in it *excited wiggle*. I rubbed it into my arms when I got home and the smell lingers on the skin for SO long without having that awful sticky feeling or taking ages to rub in, it's probably my second favourite of the collection.

I also purchased 'Foam Sweet Foam'. Okay. Pause a second for a moment of name appreciation, I think they're so cute. I can't REALLY comment on it yet because I haven't used it but, again, it has the lovely new scent. It's a smaller bottle than the 'Soak Opera' but is cheaper, from £5 to £3.50. I felt like it was generally a cheaper collection AND I prefer the packaging AND I prefer the product range AND I prefer the scent. It's a win win really?! Or a win win win win...yeah.

LAST BUT NOT LEAST, the one I was most excited to try was 'Scrubbing me softly' a new product which is a smoothing body scrub. When I opened it the first time I was a tiny bit confused because the other scrubs I have are quite creamy and much closer to a liquid consistency than a solid, but this seemed more like a block. When I applied it to my skin it feels a little bit more like a thick butter with tiny sugar particles to make it less abrasive on my skin. I REALLY like that it moisturises your skin at the same time.

I didn't actually purchase the lip balm because personally I don't think that shade of pink suits my hair colour (redhead here), I typically stick to reds and darker colours, but I'm sure it would look great on others.

This is just my initial review of the products, my first impressions - I think the collection is fantastic but if I was to recommend 2 items on first impressions it would probably be the 'Candy Cream' softening body lotion and 'Lets Spritz'. I was going to say 'if I was to recommend 1 item' but somehow that became impossible.

I hope you are all having a fantastic summer (enjoying the HOT weather if you're in England!)

Love & Hugs,

Should I go to university?

Hi Friends :)

This is the first of one of these chatty/rambly posts... sorry if it's a long read but this time it's about university!

Going to University is a hard decision. Many young people don't even believe that it IS a decision. I know that when it came to considering university for myself, it was a question of which university I was going to, not whether I was going at all. By no means am I suggesting that you shouldn't attend university, I think it's an extremely valuable experience. However, when I was at school, I was very much under the illusion that if I didn't go to university I would be in rags begging on the streets by the time I was 21, which simply is not the case (thank goodness). My classmates and I faced the challenge of choosing a university with furrowed foreheads and fear in our eyes. This decision was the most important one in the world. Granted, it WAS a very important decision at the age of 17.

University life is rich in social and cultural experiences. It can help you further your career prospects and will open lots of doors for you... do I sound like your teacher yet? But NOT going to university can also be an amazing experience and open lots of doors for you. Personally, as I was coming to the end of my A Levels I was extremely passionate about school. I don't care if that makes me lame or a nerd but I LOVED school. I loved learning and exploring, discovering more and more about Art, Photography, Dance and Psychology (my A Level subjects). I was unsure what I specifically wanted to study, but I knew I loved studying. I was advised by a teacher of mine to take a gap year, relax, travel, work and then maybe I'll be more settled about what I want to do. She knew I was interested in art and suggested that I worked in the school art department for a term during my gap year to allow me to see what it's like WORKING in that industry, rather than simply studying in it. Oh my jeeze, I LOVED it. I then went to China to work with children and began to recognise that it was teaching that I was really passionate about. I was then offered a job as an art technician and carer (for the best kid in the world) and VOILA - that is where I am today!

Taking a gap year was one of the best experiences - I REALLY recommend it, even if you AREN'T unsure about university. There will never be a more convenient time in your life to travel, fail at something and try something new. My gap year was AMAZING. Although there's the slight hiccup to this story...what about a degree Lucy? You need a degree Lucy. I was introduced to the Open University. It's an online University which you receive a gazillion textbooks in the post for and have to have excessive amounts of discipline and motivation to teach yourself a university course. There are online tutors, forums, guidance, basically just a LOT of help to get you there. I am assessed twice a month (roughly) by 2,000 word essays, which is an overwhelming amount of work. Two essays a month may seem reasonable to you, but bang an 8.30 - 4.30 job on top of that and life starts to get quite hard. Then cater for a social life, cooking, cleaning, paying bills and life gets crazy. But I love my degree - I'd really recommend the Open University courses.

SO that was a long ramble, but I think it's really important for people to know that The Open University exists, online education is a THING and it's great! I haven't exactly picked the conventional route, but I've found a way around it and I'm enjoying a different kind of university. This way I get to have the job I ADORE (I'm pretty sure I have the best job ever) and get to study a subject I love!

Either way, try not to ease the pressure of the university application process, pick a place you love and NEVER decide to go because 'everyone else was' - thats a lot of money to waste on something you're not sincerely PASSIONATE about.

Love & Hugs,

Patterns & Portraiture

A collagraph board I printed last week end, a pattern sheet I finished and a drawing which is almost complete. It's been a busy week but the portfolio is building.

3 things I learnt from 'Yes Please' by Amy Poehler

Hi Friends :)

I've always thought Amy Poehler was amazing in Parks and Recreation, but I truly fell in love with her when I read her book 'Yes Please'. With chapter titles such as 'Treat Your Career Like a Bad Boyfriend' and 'The Robots Will Kill Us All', how could I not be? Amy's book includes personal stories, important advice and hilarious comments about sex, friendships, parenting, work and everything in between.

So, I have learnt:
1) This woman has some seriously good life advice. Just when you think you're reading about one of her every day stories, it suddenly changes into some great advice. I particularly liked the advice from her parents: 'have male friends', 'girls can do anything boys can do'.

2) Amy is HILARIOUS. After reading an apology she wrote early in the book I was near tears, but besides this moment the book was hilarious. There is a brilliant list of potential divorce books (Divorce: 10 ways not to catch it!) and a haiku about plastic surgery. If you need a chuckle, this book is the one!

3) She has worked really hard to get where she is. There often seems to be a misconception that all celebrities just 'become' famous. Amy's book lists the multiple jobs she's had, how she got to where she is now and how hard she had to work to get there - she has a really admirable work ethic.

Others I'd recommend if you like this one:
Bossypants - Tina Fey
Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? - Mindy Kaling
Not That Kind of Girl - Lena Dunham

Love & hugs

Happiness is a fresh, seasonal avocado.

It actually is. Avocado is the bomb.
This is superrrrr simple, but I've already explained, I'm no chef - I'm trying to improve, okay?!

Over the easter holidays, a now distant memory, I felt lost as to what to make for lunch! I never make lunch, it's always given to me at work, but I wanted to think of something quick and yummy to make during my days of hard, painful degree work (which I regularly abandoned for friends).

So here it is, the simplest, scrummiest lunch!

Recently my sister's boyfriend taught me how to poach an egg (thanks Laurie!) but you can also use fried or scrambled (I'm a sunny-side up lover). Either way, to poach these eggs, I cut a large square of cling film and put it in one of the gaps in my egg box where my egg would have been. I cracked the egg into the cling film and quickly grabbed the corners to twist them together. Once my cling film egg was secure and my water was slightly simmering, I stirred my water quickly and placed the egg in the middle.

Then I mashed an avocado, spread it on my biona organic rye bread and added a sprinkle of sesame seeds. Once the eggs were cooked, I CAREFULLY (key word: avoid burning) got them out of the water and unwrapped them from the cling film. No egg is finished without a sprinkling of salt (Himalayan Pink Sea Salt preferably...) and pepper.

This lunch is frickin' delicious. I seriously recommend it for anyone who needs to make a quick meal.
NOW! off to celebrate my best friends birthday...

I hope you're all having a jammy saturday!

“I have always imagined that Paradise will be a kind of library.” -Jorge Luis Borges

Hi friends,

For the first post under the category 'What I'm Loving Wednesday' I started to look around my flat and straight away found about 30 things I ADORE but wanted to trim down my selection for this post! Out of the top 10 things I'm LOVING there seems to be a lot of books, which wasn't my intention at all! (and I cheated at little bit...) It was really hard to decide what to include but let's get into it!

1) Moroccan Lanterns - oh my. These are so beautiful. The larger one was a birthday present from my sister and the other was purchased by me more recently. They're both form Home Sense (dribble dribble, great home shop!!) and I adore them. I love mixing metal and wood and I think they look really beautiful by my balcony.

2) The next is succulents... which may seem REALLY boring to you but having plants in the flat has made SUCH a big difference to my mood this month. It brings life to the flat (literally) and it makes my living room feel a lot fresher. A few years ago I never would have thought that one of the main things I'm loving is plants. How time flies. My balcony is COVERED in flowers!

3) Ways of Seeing - John Berger. Okay, I'm not 100% sure ANYONE will care about this one, but this is an art history book which I find REALLY helpful. Most of my textbooks include sentences which take up half a page, they seriously boggle my brain. This book is super relaxed, easy to read and I love the writers style. This was given to me by one of my lovely friends Dani, who also did an Art History degree (thank you Dani!).

4) Topshop Shoes. Just look at them. These shoes make me so happy, I adore the pattern and they're flats so I can wear them comfortably at work when I have to clamber about putting up displays. Well done Topshop, well done *claps excitedly*

5) HOLY MOLY. Chanel Chance just smells so good, I have NO idea what's in it, so I'm looking it up to tell you the notes! 'The unexpected floral fragrance by Chanel, for women who know that in order to be lucky, you have to believe in chance!' good advertising Chanel. The website says that the main notes are Jasmine, Vanilla and Orris, which would make sense because Jasmine and Vanilla are two of my favourite scents. Either way, go and ask for a sample because I adore it!

6) Tea...okay. Some of my friends think I may have a problem here, but I'm not so sure *hangs head in shame*. I love tea! (evidently) I think its really soothing and after a long day at work I love taking 5 minutes to sit down with a cup of tea and relax.

7) Isn't Juno an amazing film? I remember the first time i saw this yearrrrrrrrs ago, when it first came out. Recently I was spring cleaning my art drawers and wanted to watch a film at the same time. I saw this on my shelves and thought I'd watch it because I hadn't seen it in ages. If you didn't see it when it first came out then go and watch it now! Or even if you have seen it, have a relaxing evening watching it again because I think it's witty, fun, and moving.

8) Who said colouring in was just for children? Another book... this colouring in book is called 'Secret Garden' and has recently become extremely popular! I was given mine for Christmas (I think!) and I adore it. Since then I've seen it everywhere so they should be easy to find in Smiths or Waterstones. Whenever I'm super stressed and need some 'me' time I put on a film and colour in, I'm basically a 5 year old.

9) Nail Varnishes - whenever I'm a little stressed, or things aren't going quite right I have no nail varnish on. I'm not sure how it happens, but it always ends up being the biggest indication that something is wrong with me, my nails will be colourless. However, as soon as I start to get out of my funk the first thing I do is paint my nails which is why I've just started loving polishes again! From my ridiculous collection, I adore all of these shades for summer. I recognise that the end Chanel shade doesn't exactly SCREAM beach walks and ice-cream but I can't exclude it! From left to right we have: Essie Fiji, Essie Sand Tropez, Essie Cute as a Button, OPI Significant Other Colour, Essie Lilacism, Essie Bikini so Teeny, Butter London Fiver and Chanel Rouge Noir.

10) Last but not least... books. Okay this is a MAJOR cheat because it should just be one book but I started pulling out books from my bookcase and then I couldn't choose one! I was going to choose Gone Girl because I ADORE that book, but then I saw Shock of the Fall and thought I couldn't exclude it. THEN I saw 'How to be a Woman' which I'd really REALLY recommend any girl/woman to read, it's amazing... and it went on like this until I had this pile of books! Clearly I can't go into detail with all of them, and this is only looking at the books in my Study, let alone the living room and bedroom, but they're all great, I promise!

So, although only 3/10 were books, this final list was after I had taken out a cook book and a coffee table book which would have made it 5/10! I hope you're all having a lovely Wednesday. I've been back at work today, which I love but it's tiring on top of the degree work. But this evening I'm off to the theatre to see 'Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night Time' which is the best play I have ever seen, so I'm a TAD excited!

Thank you so much for all of your lovely comments on my previous post - I'm really grateful for your kind words :)

Have a great week,
Love & Hugs,
